adjustment made by wyatt last evening. and severe thunderstorm watch was put into effect after midnight. severe thunderstorm warning put into effect at 1 a.m. does it matter most of you were sleeping. did you get the warning? perhaps you woke up from the storm and it's widespread damage reports from trees to buildings. parkville and we are live there this morning, where some people are talking about a possible tornado. whether that was the case or straight line winds, the national weather service investigation during the daylight hours will give confirmation to that. but it's a matter of widespread damage with large trees coming down on pown power lines. at one point "b" ge reported over 22,000 customers without power. near fleetwood we had damage. glen burnie 54 but a 54-mile-per-hour wind gusts. 53-mile-per-hour winds at the st. ann school in annapolis and parkville middle, 39-mile-per-hour wind gust. but go a mile away and winds could have been over 50 nearby as well. this is one particular

location. there's the radar at two with the heavier line of storms pushed through. and they got into cecil county and eastern shore. that's out of here. one more line of showers pushing through the northern sections this morning. and while the clearing to the south, we expect things to clear out. but the wind will blow things out. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., we have a wind advisory. wind could gust to 40 miles per hour, and that's pretty much statewide from route 50 northbound. we expect strong gusty winds. and we may not be dob with some -- done with some of the leaves and branches and small trees coming down. we will keep an eye out for that as strong winds will build a midday high temperature of 61. we will tall to the -- fall to the 50s with gusty wind and clearing skies this afternoon. for more on the problems on your commute, here's the latest traffic with kim brown. >> reporter: we are getting reports of a lot of different traffic lights just out and dark this morning. approaching intersections and the lights aren't work, treat it as a four-way stop.

looking at major roadways, traffic is moving pretty well. we don't have any didn't along 695, i-70. as we look at the maps, several intersection are closed because of debris. in kateonsville rolling road closed near the baltimore national pike. in baltimore city northern parkway at mcclean perring at mcclean make your way into parkville puddy hill closed at conroy court. perring closed at oakley for debris and downed wires. just be aware of the road hazards issues make your way out the door. now back to you. >> thanks. ten minutes after six this morning. people are waking up to a mess. we are talking trees down, windows out, power out, and a lot people wonder what happened. a perimeter has been set up around the dutch village apartments in northeast baltimore because the damage there is so bad. people who live there said they thought a train was coming through the apartment complex. we have live team coverage starting with sherrie johnson.

>> reporter: good morning. we are here at the dutch village apartment complex here. and we are here in northeast baltimore. they have evacuated this area because it's simply not safe because it's basically a disaster area right now. many of the people that we have seen walking through the street, they are walking in a daze shocked by the whole ordeal. look behind me here. i want to show you a little bit of the damage here. yes, we are talking about boards and trees and everything you can see a lawn chair there just blown out of proportion here. now we are told around 1:30 this morning, severe storms blew through here. we are talking 80-mile-an-hour winds. and we are here actually in the 2200 block of fleetwood avenue. again, that's at dutch village apartments and town homes. we have the roofs blown off the homes. there are many downed trees, power lines and siding. there's debris everywhere. three people went to the hospital with minor injuries we are told.

right in this area about 2700 homes are without power just in the general area here. this apartment complex is totally in the dark. and two mta bros here as a temporary shelter. they have a staging unit with many city agencies that have come together to work together to help folks including the emergency management. they are out here as well. the mount pleasant ice rink is serving as a temporary shelter because they have had to evacuate folks from the home because quite simply, the structures are not safe. they don't have power and the windows were blown out of many of the houses and you have debris everywhere. so it's simply not safe for people to be here. firefighters are going door to door asking people to leave and come over to the staging unit and the temporary shelter. firefighters say right now, it's difficult to estimate the damage here right now because it is dark. they are waiting for daybreak when they can see. so they are going from house to house in the dark.

and trying to figure out the damage assessment and figure out exactly what they are dealing with here. but it's been a really tough morning for many of the families here, again, they are in shock and in a daze. still trying to process what happened here overnight. worting-- reporting live, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> it's not just baltimore hit. anne arundel county arundel middle school is closed because they have no power. the damage is widespread all over the area. so let's get to the team coverage and continue this morning with charlie crowson in parkville. charlie. >> reporter: megan, thank you. good morning. we are a few minutes away from daylight here in the parkville area and throughout areas around baltimore. a lot of people are come out to see the -- coming out to see the damage from the scene. we are four hours into this as this struck between 1:30 and two this morning. they will find downed trees and power lines across the area. some people have come out surveying the damage, walking up forest avenue this morning here

in parkville. they are taking a look at everything they can see. tops of trees have been blown some 15 yards across the way, knocking down power lines as well as street signs. the real sign right now for us is this tree off the house at the intersection of oakley and forest. you can see uprooted and blown on the back of the house. now just two houses down, there is a tree that has fallen on top of a house. the family there had to be evacuated by emergency crews. some dozen fire and rescue crews are out here going to hot spots. throughout the morning, we have been talking to several of the people that have been coming out. one of them is rob who has been here since shortly after two this morning. rob, i know this was a really traumatic time for you. you were not home and your roommates told you to get back as quickly as possible. >> i got here around 15 minutes or so after everything blew through and i couldn't believe it i can't get in my front

door. the wind literally ripped the door ajar and sideways. you can't get in that way. we have my neighbor's roof in my backyard. i have a dog and the yard is fenced in. the side of the fence on both neighbors are completely blown down. we have got, you know, kind of standard baltimore metal awning on one side of the house. that's ripped off and thrown in the yard. lots of damage. part of the neighbor's roof was in my yard. but he has a big hole. in his garage as part of the roof. >> reporter: we can't get down there because trees are blocking the roadways but you've been able to walk down to your house and talking to people as they have been coming through. they have been seeing other areas in the neighborhood. what are they telling you? >> everybody is saying it's bad. the chimney collapsed two blocks from here on a house. everybody is okay but the house was condemned. i heard in the dutch village apartments they had a lot of damage. there's a big shopping center

excellence and provides higher starting salaries and more competitive pay scales. the goal is to continue to attract and retain excellent teachers. teach kers vote from 7 this morning until 6 tonight on the contract. we will let you know what happens. for the third year in a row, baltimore city school c-eo is recommending a school closure. institute for business and entrepreneur hip-hop high school may have to shut its doors sending more than 300 students throughout the system out. the proposal is part of dr. alonso's ongoing plan to improve city schools. dr. alonso says the graduation rate dropped from 82% to 52% in just one year. student enrollment declined. >> at a time when the dropout rate is declining tremendously, you have a school where more kids were dropping out of school which is completely unacceptable. >> under the plan, 9th and 10th graders would be moved after the 2011 school year.

all right. severe weather the case this morning as we start off right now. taking a look at johns hop cns applied physics lag in laurel. 54 this morning. most of us start at mild note in the 50s. one of the highlights this wind gust, 57 miles per hour, this is one of the highest wind gusts we have officially recorded in the state . and the national weather service has taken it as valid. but we have not heard any other confirmed higher amounts of winds that may happen with some damage assessment later on today. but essentially, at 6:15 on this windy wednesday morning, this is what it looked like roughly four hours ago. we take you back to 2:10 where the ray dore shows the basic intense line of rain pushing across the eastern shore in into delaware. most of us a quarter to a half inch. all the stuff blowing through east of the area and we clear out south of baltimore this morning. showers on the north side. it really is about the wind. and we have a wind advisory

that kicks in at 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. not from the line of storms, but from the bakers storm to the north. and basically all counties in maryland north of route 50 through pennsylvania back into the mountains we could see winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour or higher. and that includes gale warnings and small craft advisory where watters may go 3 to 5 feet at a very steep chop. there's the line of storms that blew through about 1, 1:30 getting out but watch how it wraps around the main low pressure center. two weeks ago it was record low pressure in minnesota. now this is passing in buffalo new york and a active weather pattern building two weeks from now. we could have colder air and we could talk about something of a wintery variety but this morning it's about the rain and this wind. wraps around the storm and even though cooler air spills in, the wind around the storm out of the west and southwest this morning and wind could be gusting to 40 miles per hour later today. we have higher alities on hill

tops. colder air behind the storm will move in tonight into tomorrow. now forecast models do indicate the fact we should have a dry day and we should clear the skies out. next wave of energy comes in with snow, snowshoe west virginia and high mountains overnight. we get the clouds building in during the day and tomorrow evening, a rain shower possible with some snowflakes north and west as temperatures will be sliding to the 40s and 30s. nothing is going to stick. don't worry. snow accumulates a few inch in the mountains and for us we spill in cold air for a couple days. today is the wind advisory 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. gust to 40 miles per hour. and a brief high of 61. and occurs around lunchtime or early afternoon and temperatures tail off through the 50s. we will drop to 38 overnight. it's tomorrow evening when showers come through. otherwise a. dry day. 54. 52 on friday. some indications many stay in the 40s. we will stay in the low to mid-50s and dry through the weekend with rain arriving before thanksgiving. kim. >> reporter: justin,s wind warnings have been lifted at the bay bridge. still in place this morning at

the key bridge and as we take a peek at the beltway, traffic is building. we will see minor volume delays. but no major incidents around 695 and 95 corridor also checking in without any problems. as we look at the maps, let's look up in harford county. they got hit pretty hard in terms of closures. in fallston because of debris in the roadway and darlington trapped church road and bel air the traffic lights are out at route 24 and mixdale road. when you approach the intersection treat it as a four-way intersection. route 7 is choseed at old mountain road. two accidents in baltimore city one at northern parkway at jfx. and we have debris issues from baltimore city into parkville especially along perring and mcclean boulevard. i will have a list of those in a few minutes. now back to you. >> thank you. 6:18. before we get to more severe weather, we want to take a break and talk about thanksgiving.
